Jennifer Weiner and Simon & Schuster Building Fan Community with iPhone App
Posted by: Jenna Quilalang Under: Customers | Mobile innovation has made it possible for authors and their publishers to not only reach their audience no matter where they are, but also more deeply engage with them through interactive capabilities and videos. Best-selling author Jennifer Weiner (In Her Shoes) and her publisher Simon & Schuster are at the forefront of a new movement, having chosen to publish an interactive iPhone application to connect directly with fans. The application allows them to keep fans updated on news, tour dates, excerpts, video interviews, and photos, as well as interact via a comments section.Weiner’s innovative approach to reader engagement is working out. The app, launched mid-July, saw immediate traction including many positive comments to boot, perhaps proving a first sign of things to come as more authors look to use interactive mobile applications to build a strong fan community.

“Love it or Hate it?” AKQA Takes an Original Approach to Using Video for Marketing
Posted by: Jenna Quilalang Under: Customers |
Award-winning digital agency, AKQA, approached Kyte to help one of their British clients, Unilever, which owns the Marmite Bars brand, to define a unique digital strategy with the goal of creating a polemic discussion amongst consumers. Marmite already had a large brand presence online, with a large Facebook following, and AKQA wanted to tap into and grow this social community.
Excerpt from Success Story:
"As Marmite already has a large brand presence online, with a Facebook fan-group of over 250,000 members, it was a logical step to exploit this social community for a consumer generated content campaign.
The unusual and surprising innovation of a savoury cereal bar tied in perfectly with the “love it or hate it” approach consumers have to the brand, allowing AKQA to stimulate an online debate around the product, using videos taken at experiential sampling events in shopping centres and train stations around the UK, which captured consumer reactions to the new cereal bar.
Videos were created across the UK, generating a large amount of content to be added to the Facebook campaign fan site, and causing another challenge for AKQA. The agency needed to manage the sheer volume of the authentic video generated to fuel the debate."

Kyte Used to Engage Audiences in Latin America
Posted by: Jenna Quilalang Under: Customers |
Leading Latin American publishing company La Prensa uses Kyte to power their online video for a number of different news websites.
La Prensa was excited about the flexibility that Kyte Platform SDK provides, enabling them to seamlessly deliver engaging video content through varying player formats customized to accommodate their specific branding needs. In addition to their main website, they’re also able to deliver original video content to their two sister publications, El Heraldo which focuses on daily news, and Diario Deportivo Diez, which currently features exciting video content of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
To encourage further engagement and interaction from visitors of their sites, they are also using Kyte’s built-in social capabilities to allow visitors to comment, rate, and share videos through Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.
Currently, they’ve only implemented video players on these three websites, but we look forward to upcoming projects with La Prensa, including a Facebook integration using our Facebook App Framework, as well as live-streaming through Kyte LivePro Unwired.
