Kyte Tip - How to Create a Channel Changer

Posted by: Ulysses King Under: Product | Tips |

One of the cool features on the Kyte Platform is the ability to create a channel changer, so that viewers can check out other branded content within your player —without having to be redirected to another site. Why would you want to do this? It adds more value to your channel, keeps viewers on your destination site (e.g. blog, web site, social network, etc.) and provides a more engaging experience. For example, you could link to a fan channel, or a fellow recording artist on the same label, or a blogger on your blog roll that has a Kyte channel.

So how do you set up a channel changer?

  1. Determine two or more Kyte channels you would like users to be able to browse
  2. Create links to the channels by going to www.kyte.tv, click manage channel (found under your channel’s name), click edit player branding, enter the following syntax:

Channel 1: Insert your info wherever text is Red
Fan Channel

Channel 2: Insert your info wherever it is Red
<a href=“event: setUri?channels/1939” >Artist Channel

Below is an example that we've created for the purpose of this blog post. To change channels, click on the links at the top of the player.

We hope that you find this information useful. Happy Kyting!

Promote your Kyte Channel with Social Media Tools

Posted by: Ulysses King Under: Product |

Leveraging social media tools like Twitter, FriendFeed and RSS can greatly enhance the reach of your Kyte channel. Many of our users, whether they be individual consumers or recording artists, frequently inquire about best practices for promoting their Kyte channel using social media tools, so we’ve put together a short primer to help you get started.

Twitter
Twitter is a great way for your community of fans to stay up to date on your Kyte channel. Notifications can be sent/received via:

  1. SMS
  2. Online or mobile at Twitter.com
  3. Or any third party Twitter application such as Twhirl

To set up Twitter integration with your Kyte channel:

  • Go to your profile on Kyte.tv
  • Go to integration settings
  • Enter your Twitter username and password
  • Set your desired Twitter frequency
  • Make sure to set the options to ‘Show my Twitter username on Kyte’

FriendFeed
FriendFeed is a social media aggregator that compiles feeds from Twitter, RSS, Facebook, Flickr, Yelp and Kyte.

To set up FriendFeed integration with your Kyte channel:

  • Go to your profile on Kyte.tv
  • Enter your FriendFeed username and remote key, then your community will get a notification on FriendFeed when new Kyte shows are created.
  • When you create a new Kyte show it will show up in the users FriendFeed

RSS and Google Reader

  • Encourage your community of fans to subscribe to your channel via RSS. The RSS option is found on your Kyte.tv profile under Channel Info.

Google Talk

  • If you’re audience uses Gmail they can receive an instant message via Google Talk whenever you produce new content by adding your Kyte channel as a Google Talk friend.

To receive Google Talk alterts your audience needs to:

  • Register with kyte.tv
  • Go to their profile on Kyte.tv
  • Click on Integrations Settings
  • Under Kytefeed Instant Messenger Notifications enter their Gmail account name
  • Their account name is their Gmail address: username@gmail.com
  • The user will get a Google Talk IM when the channels in their Kytefeed produce a new show

Other Tips

  • Produce content on a regular basis so that your fans will want to keep tuning in.
  • Encourage your community to click subscribe after viewing your content and it will become a part of their Kytefeed. The Kytefeed is an in-player RSS for channels that fans can subscribe to.
  • Place banners on your web site, blog, or social network, that say, “Follow me on Twitter, FriendFeed, Google Talk,” etc.
  • Embed your channel in multiple destinations including social networks, blogs, web sites, etc.
  • For Facebook pages, click 'Send an Update to Fans' and then put the link to specific Kyte shows (from Get & Share tab in the Kyte player) in the message. Note that because of Kyte's white-label listing on Facebook, your Kyte channel will play directly in your friend's message boxes & newsfeed.
