Codec and Streaming Video Engineer

Summary

We are looking for a Codec and Streaming Video Engineer with a deep understanding of video codecs and transport methods, with a focus on web-based video, codecs optimized for embedded devices, and familiar with open source transcoding applications such as ffmpeg.

This position is full-time and you will be working out of our office overlooking Union Square in San Francisco, close to MUNI and BART.

Experience

  • Experience programming for embedded devices
  • Experience setting up and maintaining RTSP servers
  • Hands on experience with live broadcasting to and from embedded devices
  • Knowledge of build systems such as Ant
  • Familiarity with Perforce

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience writing, optimizing, and debugging C/C++
  • 5+ years of in-depth experience working with video codec and streaming technology
  • Thorough understanding of H.263, MPEG4, H.264, and Sorenson Spark codecs
  • Knowledge of audio codecs, including AAC, AMR, MP3, and MPEG4 audio
  • Understanding of media container formats, particularly FLV, MP4, MPG, and 3gp
  • Knowledge of RTMP and RTSP protocols
  • Working knowledge of ffmpeg internals, including the ability to add support for new formats
  • Ability to write clean, coherent code
  • Ability to understand and master new technologies quickly
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Willingness to learn and to teach
